I met Deloris E. Jordan back in 2011 at a Domestic Abuse Awareness Symposium at Martin Luther King High School. She was among the esteemed guest speakers at the event hosted by the then Assistant. D.A. Seth Williams, through his community initiative for victims of domestic abuse.
That was 14 years ago.
We stayed in touch over the years, and she has become a pal and a confidant, coaching and pushing me through the pains of writing my book, from offering helpful hints to help with writer's block to listening to me cry and try to have a pity party. She would listen but would never let me get into pity party mode.
I continue to check in every now and then, and as busy as she is she always manages to take my calls. During a recent conversation, she told me that she needs a new manager. I said, "I'M AVAILABLE!"
The rest will be history.
