The
Juanita Rowe Foundation, Sharswood II Townhouses, The Philadelphia Association
of Former Gang Members and Friends and other partners are initiating this
wonderful event Father's Day Olympics!!
The
purpose of this event is twofold; to unify Philadelphia Communities by coming
together for a positive cause and to up-lift and highlight Fathers who take the
job of caregivers, role models and providers as charge of direct action.
The
mission of the Coordinating Committee for the Father’s Day Olympics is; to
combat the consistent stream of negative imagery surrounding Black men in the
media. However, understanding that Black Men are multidimensional and come from
a legacy of determination, virtuosity and integrity, it is crucial that positive
images of Black Manhood be up-lifted and promoted.
The
Father’s Day Olympics Coordinating Committee will select four African American
men to honor as Outstanding Father’s and Role Models in Philadelphia County. The
criteria for nominees are: A Black Male, A Father and/or Mentor, who is a
Philadelphia County resident. Nominee must be involved in Community Activities
such as, (but not limited to) Sports Coach, Community Organizer, Active Parent,
Mentor, and/or Educator.
