Candidate Night

Bouncy Houses

Content by Mitch Osborne

Our mall just opened a room with bouncy houses in it for kids. It’s awesome. It’s got about 4 or 5 different bouncy castles, and you can pay to play in 15 minute increments. I think every 15 minutes is $3.50. So, yeah, it’s not cheap, but it makes the perfect bribe for good behavior while I do my shopping. Today, I told the kids that if they were polite and patient while I shopped for sandals, we would go play in the bouncy houses. It worked like a charm! It was so worth the $7.00 I had to shell out for two kids. They had a tv going and comfy chairs for the parents to relax in while the children played. I saw a commercial for http://www.cabletvadvisor.com/, and wrote it down on one of my receipts so that I could remember to check it out once I got home. The commercial made it sound like a really useful site. By the time we left the jumpy houses, the kids were exhausted and slept all the way home.

Feed Your Hair From Within

"Your health is your most prized possession"... so is your hair health, it is a living part of your body just like your skin, teeth and nails...

Your hair is fed by your blood stream. The health of your hair and scalp depends to a great degree on the quality of your blood just as your general health depends on the quality of your blood. The quality of your blood, which feeds your hair, depends on nutrition. If your diet does not contain all the necessary vitamins, minerals, proteins, and amino acids, then your blood will be deficient in all important nutrients and cannot supply them to your hair.
If your hair is falling out or your experiencing baldness, you would be wise to get immediate attention. Usually, hair loss caused by severe conditions is sometimes temporary, and when the condition is cleared up, the hair will resume it's normal growth.
However, the greatest majority of all hair loss in men are so called male-pattern baldness and in women "female pattern". In these instances, baldness is caused, as Dr, Mikus would say, by impaired blood circulation to the hair follicles, prolonged mental stress, affected by the influence of male hormone on the galea {causes it to thicken} or by impaired blood circulation caused by nutrition, or may be affected by the constriction of the blood vessels{cause by smoking} in the scalp, also emotional stress.

Finger Massage:
Place both hands firmly on your head and without moving the fingers or palms, push the whole scalp in circular movements for a few seconds... then place the fingers or palms in a new position repeat until you cover the whole scalp including the forehead, temples and neck...

Brushing
Use a fine brush of fine quality, natural bristle, brush hair for 3-5 minutes morning and evening. Alternate up and down strokes. Regular brushing improves the quality of your hair and helps to prevent baldness. Brushing deep-massages the scalp and cleanse the surface of dirt, dead skin and stale oils. It also helps the sebaceous glands to release their secretions and stimulate their normal activity. And don't be afraid to brush thinking you will pull out too many hairs. If the hair is loosely attached in its cuticle that will come off in brushing- then it would be of no benefit to keep it there. The sooner it comes out the better...The emptied hair follicle stimulated by vigorous brushing and the flow of new blood, will soon start growing new hair.

Shampooing
I do not advise using detergent shampoos or hot water. For your last rinse mix a 1 oz of Bragg's apple cider vinegar to 5 oz a of warm water as your final rinse. Or use Aginah's Herbal Hair Products.

WINNING SOMETHING FINALLY

Contributed by Milford Woods

I was so glad this morning when I logged onto our local news station’s Facebook page using my corvallis 4g internet and entered the spa give away. I was so glad, because around three o’clock today, I actually got a call and I had won! The spa give away included a full day at a local spa. This includes a manicure, pedicure, facial, body wrap, and hair cut and style. I think that I will be at the spa all day when I redeem it, but I have never won anything in a contest and was especially excited when I won! They announced on their Facebook page. The other cool thing is that after I leave the spa day, they want to give me a brief thirty second interview on the air! I have never been on television and can’t wait! The planned date for the spa day/interview is the first week in April. It will give me enough time to make sure that all of my friends tune in!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

Even holistically-minded people should have a good doctor.

by: Rachael Pontillo

I personally believe that “food is medicine”, and use nutrition and lifestyle to keep my immune system strong so my body can fight off any bugs that happen to be going around on its own. I am pretty successful with that too, since my kids and I are hardly ever sick. When I feel a bug coming on, I usually choose a natural or homeopathic remedy if rest, nourishment, and hydration aren’t cutting it, and I’ve also had great luck with that.

However, I think it is important to have a good doctor since there are times where medical intervention may be necessary. Plus, I think it is really important to have annual physicals (“well” visits), so I can have all my levels checked to make sure that what I am doing is indeed what my body needs. We are all constantly changing, so our needs change. Sometimes we need to adjust our intake of certain nutrients if our levels show deficiencies or imbalances. If you don’t want to pay for these tests out of pocket, you need a doctor to order them so insurance will cover them.

Furthermore, emergencies and accidents do happen. My holistic buddies and I always joke that you can take care of minor things yourself with nature’s medicines; but if you get hit by a truck call the ambulance, not the seaweed man! Of course no one likes to think about bad things happening, but unfortunately we don’t live in unpoppable bubbles…it’s a jungle out there and if something does happen it’s a good idea to have a good doctor to take care of you.

Save on pet costs

Studies have shown that over 60% of all families in the United States own a pet, and pets aren't cheap. The cost of basic food, supplies, medical care, and training for a dog or cat often runs $700 to $875 annually. Add to that surgeries, grooming, kennel boarding, and miscellaneous costs, and you may end up spending $10,000 or more to keep your pet healthy and happy throughout its life. Fortunately, many of the costs associated with responsible pet ownership can be controlled or at least reduced. Here are a few ideas.

Buy a mutt. Besides being cheaper, mongrel pets often have fewer health problems than purebreds. One study found that caring for a mixed-breed dog was about a third as expensive as caring for a pet with a sterling pedigree.

Get it spayed or neutered. Animal shelters often provide this procedure at relatively low cost. Unless you want to open a pet store, this step should be first on your to-do list. Getting your dog or cat "fixed" may also mean fewer health problems down the road.

Buy food in bulk. For most pet owners, food is their largest ongoing expense. So reducing that cost often generates the greatest savings. Although big-box retailers offer substantial cost reductions for large quantities of pet food, it always makes sense to shop around. (Specialty stores have sales, too.) Generally speaking, the more you buy, the cheaper the food. But be careful. Though there's no legal definition of "premium" in terms of pet food nutritional quality, think twice before grabbing the cheapest bag off the shelf. Long-term health problems may result from routinely feeding non-nutritional meals — food that's mostly filler — to your dog or cat.

An ounce of prevention... Regular exercise and routine veterinary visits often reduce long-term health care costs. And don't forget their teeth. Severe gingivitis may lead to serious health problems in your pet, including kidney and lung disease. If you don't want to brush your dog's ivories, consider dental chews that release teeth-cleaning enzymes.

Go cheap on toys. Shopping at your local dollar store can save lots on balls, chew bones and all those other baubles your pet adores.

Go slow on pet insurance. Budgeting and contributing to your own "pet emergency fund" may be cheaper than paying insurance premiums. Do the math before buying.

"Women Who Tech Too Much .... in the Park!"

A Women’s History Month Celebration

Hosted by 1st Sphere Community & Economic Development Corporation

Philadelphia, PA, --- Recent numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2006) indicate that women comprise 27-29% of the computing workforce. These numbers have fallen from a peak of 38% in the mid-1980s.

It's no secret that women have a significant amount of influence over purchases made in American households. As nurturers, business people, consumers and key stakeholders, women are the trendsetters and models for America’s future. Unfortunately, many of the tech tools that women need to succeed are not readily available to them, within their neighborhoods, nor within their reach.

The 1st Sphere Community & Economic Development Corporation, a non-profit organization, is providing direction to change this reality. 1st Sphere Community & Economic Development Corporation welcomes all to attend the Women Who Tech Too Much .... in the Park! workshop.

The Women Who Tech Too Much .... in the Park! workshops are free outdoor tech events.

The objective of these workshops is to provide a safe yet open atmosphere where women can bring their own wifi enabled laptops or use the ones which will be provided to learn new computing skills, ask questions, and gain hands-on training in areas of Tech & Business computing, Social Media, and Internet safety. Because these events will take place in the park, women can also bring their families. It is a great way for children to get exercise and fresh air while their parents gain valuable insight into interesting tech tools.

These free workshops will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at MLK Park located at 6th & Engle Streets in Chester, PA 19013 (Next to Crozer Library), http://women-history-month.eventbrite.com/ and Saturday, March 31,2012 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Fernhill Park, Morris St & W Abbottsford Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19144, http://womens-history-month-19144.eventbrite.com

Participants must RSVP to reserve a space during the Women Who Tech Too Much .... in the Park! workshop.

This interactive workshop will be facilitated by African American woman computer expert, JC Lamkin, PMP, President of Gypsy Lane Technologies (GLT), a leader in Internet solutions with offices in Philadelphia County, Delaware County, and Chester County, PA. GLT specializes in best-in-class computer management solutions. Ms. Lamkin will also be available to sign copies of her book, “Fabulous & Tech-Filled, Volume 1” .
